Omanaia School Ōmanaia Native School was established in 1881 under the Native Schools Act. The land was gifted by a collective of tūpuna who chose the present site for the school.
Ōmanaia School is situated in the Hokianga between Waima and Rawene behind Te Piiti Marae on Ōmanaia school road past Tapikitū urupa. Ōmanaia sits west Puke Huia and Ngā Puke Haua maunga. Identified paraka whenua significant to the current site are Ahikawariki, Karatia, Te Taraire, Potaka, Tapikitu, Taiwhakapiki, Horotiu and Ōmanaia. The two principal hapū of the valley Ngāti Kaharau and Ngāti Hau were leading contributors to the makeup of the school roll. However we now have children from neighbouring hapū, all of which reside in the Hokianga area. |
Who We Are |
Ōmanaia school is a Māori medium level 2 (51%-80%) bi-lingual school. Our core curriculum areas in literacy and maths are delivered, taught and assessed under Ngā Whanaketanga and Te Marautanga o Aotearoa. While we strive to uphold and maintain Te Reo Māori me ona tikanga. We offer unique learning programs that support inclusion of all students with diverse and special needs. We are committed to providing a curriculum that caters to the needs of all tamariki as successful life-long learners.
We have 3 level 2 immersion classes for years 0-2. years 3-4 and years 5-8. |

Ōmanaia School is a contributing school with a role of 31 since the beginning of 2017. The two neighbouring schools are Waima Primary school and Rawene Primary school. Towards the West coast of the Hokianga are Te Kura Kaupapa Māori o te Tonga o Hokianga and Opononi Area School. 100% of our students identify themselves as Maori with 100% being descendants of Rāhiri. Karatia playcentre is situated on the school grounds and operates every Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
