KURA A IWI WHANAU HUI
Whanau,
On Wednesday 13th March there is going to be a very important meeting held at Te Piiti Marae at 6pm. This hui is about our school with an opportunity to become a kura a iwi, recognised as a special character school.
We are inviting all Ngati Kaharau / Ngati Hau, whanau of Omanaia, parents, kaumatua and kuia to attend this meeting to inform you of what a kura a iwi is and what that would look like for our school if we want to go in this direction.
Please come and attend this meeting to support our school and our tamariki as there will be some questions that need to be asked to the whanau and community which will determine our journey as a kura a iwi / special character school

Umu fundraiser
We would like to thank all of our whanau for helping to support our fundraisers this year to help our tamariki get to Hawaii. We are now a week away from heading to the O'ahu and our tamariki are getting very excited about it.
Last week we did our final fundraiser which was an island-style plate lunch Umu. It was delicious. We put down a traditional umu using taro and banana leaves - our plate lunch included: Taro in coconut cream, Samoan sapasui, Palusami (Cornbeef in coconut cream wrapped in Taro leaf), fry bread, chicken, pork, ham, kumara and potato. There was so much food our plate lunch lasted 2 meals. Here are some photos of our day:

HAERENGA KI HAWAI'I
On Monday 27th August, 10 of our senior tuakana students will be travelling for their first time together to Hawai'i for 10 days. We were very fortunate to one of 14 schools selected to be awarded the airpoints for schools programme by Air New Zealand. Our target was to raise 20,000 airpoints from donators around the country and we have been successful in reaching that target. All of our flights are covered with the air points donations so now we are trying to fundraise the rest of the money to cover all the expenses of our trip
We are very excited to visit the island of O'ahu. While we are there we will be visiting some historical places and buildings, sight seeing, hiking, going on educational visits and of course to explore and have some fun in the Hawaiian summer sun.
This is the first time Omanaia school has travelled to Hawai'i and it will be a lasting memory that our students will always cherish for the rest of their lives.
To help us achieve our goal we are doing some fundraising.
