marau ā-kura
what is a marau ā-kura?
Te Marau ā-Kura (localised curriculum) is a living, breathing curriculum that reflects the expectations and aspirations of the whānau, hapū and iwi. A Marau ā-Kura demonstrates the strategic commitment of the school to provide quality programmes that serve the educational needs of the students and their whānau. Central to quality professional practice, most kura/schools are seeking support to develop the rigour of their Marau ā-Kura including clearly articulating the alignment of whānau aspirations to classroom implementation.
Our Journey towards building Omanaia as a bi-lingual kura and creating our own Marau ā-kura
During the first phase of developing our Marau ā-kura we will be working with our students, staff and whānau (parents & guardians) to gather their thoughts and ideas about the direction of Ōmanaia school. Once the first draft of our Marau ā-kura is completed and endorsed by the BOT, the document will be presented to the wider Ōmanaia community for comment.
It is important that our Kuia Koroua have a genuine input into this important document and continue to have a meaningful role in the Kura. It is not always possible to bring our Kuia and Koroua together to meet as a large group therefore we will do our best to engage with our pakeke as often as possible and in a way that is comfortable and convenient for them.
As the Principal, I am sometimes asked, what is the vision of Omanaia school? As a Maori medium
Bi-lingual school we are aiming to create a vision and curriculum that is aligned to our iwi and hapū. This concept is certainly the wish of the Board of Trustees, myself and the staff and as the leader of the school.
This section will give a commentary on the various meetings that have been held to show the developing narrative from which will grow into 'Te Marau ā-kura o Ōmanaia. In these discussions we maintain that "everyone's contribution has value" therefore we insist that no ones ideas are disregarded.
